Resumption of Fuel Supply from Soma LNG Terminal to Fukushima Natural Gas

Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX) announced that the Soma LNG terminal (Shinchi-machi, Fukushima Prefecture), which was temporarily shut down following the earthquake off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture that occurred on February 13, 2021, resumed power generation fuel supply to the Fukushima Natural Gas Power Plant owned by Fukushima Gas Power Ltd. (FGP), located adjacent to the Soma LNG Terminal today.

In conjunction with the resumption of fuel supply from the Soma LNG terminal, the FGP's power plant also resumed operation today.

Please refer to the following for the latest situation of Soma LNG terminal and the FGP's power plant since the earthquake.

1. JAPEX's Soma LNG terminal: Resumed the fuel supply to the FGP power plant on February 19

After temporarily suspending operations to confirm safety following to the earthquake, we have sequentially resumed operations at facilities whose safety has been confirmed through inspections, restoration measures, and trial runs. On February 16, the LNG regasified gas supply operations to the gas pipeline network and delivery by LNG tank trucks have been resumed.

With the confirmation of the safety on related facilities at the terminal, the supply of LNG regasified gas for power generation to the power plant resumed today.

2. FGP's Fukushima Natural Gas Power Plant: Resumed the operation on February 19

As a result of checks and inspections conducted by FGP after the automatic shutdown of the power generation facilities following the earthquake, there was no damage to the facilities that would interfere with the power plant's operation.

With the resumption of fuel supply from the Soma LNG terminal, the power plant resumed operation today, for both Unit No.1 and No.2.

JAPEX will continue to place the highest priority on safety in the Soma LNG terminal operation and contribute to the stable operation of the FGP's power plant.
