JACOS Wins CAPP Responsible Energy Award in its "HE" Oil Sands Project

On the evening of May 21, 2014, Japan Canada Oil Sands Limited ("JACOS"), a subsidiary of Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. ("JAPEX"), was presented with an award from the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers ("CAPP") as the 2014 recipient of the CAPP Responsible Energy Award in the Social Responsibility category.

This award recognizes JACOS efforts in consultation and collaboration with local aboriginal stakeholders affected by our current and future operations in the Hangingstone area.

Taking a unique approach to stakeholder relations, JACOS established an advisory group made up of potentially impacted indigenous peoples including First Nations, Metis locals and aboriginal trappers. This group, the Aboriginal Review Group ("ARG"), provided their collective traditional knowledge to JACOS and their consultants while conducting the Environmental Impact Assessment ("EIA") for the Hangingstone Expansion Project ("HE").

Post regulatory approval, the ARG continues to meet on a quarterly basis to provide input into JACOS environmental monitoring operations and other initiatives. The vision for the ARG is that it will continue to provide valuable input to JACOS for the life of HE. JACOS continues to work with ARG and be committed to social responsibility in  oil sands development.
