JAPEX Started a Self-consignment Supply of Renewable Electricity to our Gas Field Operation Facility -Our first self-consignment with a view to further responding to non-FIT-
Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX) has installed a photovoltaic (PV) power system named "Niigata Matsuhama PV Power Plant" (hereinafter the "PV Plant") on our idle land at Niigata City, Niigata, with the generation capacity of 300kW and started its operation on March 1, 2025. The electricity generated by the PV Plant is supplied to the Katakai Field Office at Ojiya City, Niigata, which operates Katakai Gas Field using JAPEX's first self-consignment (*1) scheme.
In recent years, in the renewable energy field, the supply of electricity from non-FIT (*2) PV power plants are gaining momentum in the market, and there is an urgent need to strengthen the ability to respond to the new schemes and the systems. The electricity supply from the PV Plant to the Katakai Field Office using self-consignment scheme is an initiative based on this background. In the future, our solar power generation business is looking to engage in off-site corporate PPA (*3), utilizing the knowledge accumulated through the operation of the PV Plant. Please refer to the appendix for the outline of the PV Plant.
The PV Plant has a small-scale storage battery (capacity: 5kW) that can be used as an emergency power source, it functions as supplying electricity to the surrounding area when disaster and etc. as part of contribution to the local community.
In the JAPEX Group's direction for carbon neutrality, "JAPEX 2050: Towards a Carbon-Neutral Society," JAPEX has set a target of reducing 40% of Scope1+2 GHG emission intensity by 2030, compared to fiscal 2019 forward to achieving net zero emissions from our operations by 2050. Through the PV Plant, Katakai Field Office will be expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 183 tons per year.
JAPEX will aim to contribute towards carbon neutrality in 2050 through supply and its expansion of low-carbon electricity from renewable energy sources.
Note)
*1: A system in which a company, as a power generation operator, installs a PV power system outside the area where it consumes electricity and supplies the generated electricity to its consumption area using power companies' grid.
*2: Abbreviation of Feed-in Tariff.
*3: A contract which supplies electricity generated by renewable energy sources installed outside the area where it consumes via power companies' grid.
