JAPEX to Participate in CCS+ Initiative

Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (JAPEX) has participated in CCS+ Initiative (hereafter "CCS+"), which is an international platform aiming to scale-up CCS (Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage) projects. 

CCS+ is a global, multi-stakeholder alliance set up to scale cutting edge climate technologies in carbon capture, utilization, removal and storage. By developing robust carbon accounting methodologies, with a solutions-focused modular approach, CCS+ enables the measurement and monetization of reduced emissions and removed carbon. This will drive down global emissions and reduce atmospheric concentrations of carbon on the road to net zero emissions.

JAPEX position our efforts for CCS/CCUS as one of the priority items for the medium- to long-term on "JAPEX 2050" as our carbon neutral direction and objective developed in May 2021 and "JAPEX Management Plan 2022-2030" formulated in March 2022. Under the recognition that CCS/CCUS (Carbon dioxide Capture, Utilization and Storage) is an essential technology to achieve net-zero, we have been working toward the practical application of CO₂ injection and storage technology and the launch of the CCS/CCUS project, based on the expertise acquired by oil and natural gas development and production (E&P: exploration and production).

By participating in CCS+, JAPEX aims to contribute to establishing methodologies to generate carbon credit from CCS/CCUS and realize a carbon-neutral society by 2050.
