Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Construction of the Ozu Biomass Power Plant in Ehime of the Ozu Biomass Power Plant in Ehime

Ozu Biomass Power Co., Ltd. (OBP), which is our sponsored company, held a groundbreaking ceremony of the Ozu Biomass Power Plant (Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture, hereafter "the power plant") at the construction site on June 5, 2022.

The power plant is the core of the joint project promoting by a business entity, which is sponsored by MAEDA CORPORATION, Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd., Yonden Business Co.,Inc., and SHINKO DENSO co.,ltd. A total of 38 persons attended the ceremony, including Vice Governor of Ehime Prefecture and local government officials, construction related companies, and other relevant parties of the project.

In this project, a biomass power plant with an output of approximately 50,000 kW will be constructed and operated at about 25,700 square meters of land in the industrial park of Nagahama-area, Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture. It will use wood pellets imported from overseas for biomass fuel. The amount of power generation will be approximately 350 GWh per year and all of them will be sold to Shikoku Electric Power Transmission & Distribution Company, Incorporated (YONDEN T&D) based on the Feed-in tariffs scheme (FIT) for renewable energy.

The commercial operation of the power plant is scheduled to commence in August 2024. The business entity and sponsors will contribute to the expansion of the use of electricity derived from renewable energy sources with lower environmental impact and the development of local economies for the carbon-neutrality, with understandings and supports by the local communities in Ozu area.
