CSR Management

Since JAPEX’s corporate vision is the contribution to society through the stable energy supply, we consider that the business activities themselves are one of the important CSR priorities.

We decided on the direction to pursue CSR activity systematically on a company-basis in 2012. Following that, in 2014, we specified five core CSR themes under the name “SHINE” of the JAPEX Group, by incorporating various feedbacks obtained from dialogues with the stakeholders. Our CSR activities, aligned the plan and targets based on those core themes, have been promoting with its PDCA cycle.

CSR Committee, which is chaired by the president, is held twice in a year and more if necessary as the base of our company-wide CSR promotion. This committee has roles for making the decision of the CSR basic direction, for formulating and reviewing its promotion plans, and discussing the CSR disclosure such as the annual publication of the corporate report. The status of CSR promotion is regularly reported to the Board of Directors.

Core CSR Themes “SHINE”

We review each ongoing challenge of five core CSR themes “SHINE” appropriately, with considering changes in the business environment and our core business areas.

Following the review process in 2019, the importance of “response to climate change” and “corporate governance” was raised, and each challenge was rearranged.

1. Evaluate present status and identify challenges

We extracted our CSR challenges comprehensively while referring to proper guidelines, including GRI standards.

2. Analyze and evaluate the challenges

We set the priority of each challenge considering the business impact and the importance to stakeholders.

3. Conduct internal survey

We had an internal survey to define the importance of each CSR challenge for management officers and managers.

4. Review the items of CSR disclosure

We identified new each challenge based on the results of the evaluation and survey.

Stable and sustainable energy supply

Achieve a stable supply of energy by maintaining table supply sources and infrastructure for crude oil and natural gas, efficient and safe operations, and ensuring the quality and safety of its products.
Secure diverse sources of supply by actively participating in the development of geothermal, solar, and other renewable energy sources, as well as unconventional energy sources such as shale oil gas and methane hydrate, while contributing to the development of related technologies such as carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS).


HSE as our culture

Secure occupational health and safety, develop various risk management policies and systems, including security risks, and firmly establish a corporate culture that places top priority on occupational health, safety, and the environment (HSE).
In conducting its business, strive for energy conservation and the efficient use of natural resources to prevent global warming and ensure the sustainability of resources.
