JAPEX has been participating in development and production of Garraf Oil Field located in southern Iraq through its subsidiary, Japex Garraf Ltd.

The consortium of JAPEX and PETRONAS, Malaysian state oil company, was awarded the contract for development and production of Garraf Oil Field at the second international petroleum licensing round for undeveloped oil fields in December 2009 held by Iraqi Ministry of Oil. Subsequently, Japex Garraf has been actively engaged in development and production of the field together with PETRONAS, Operator, and achieved the first oil production in August 2013 followed by approval of achievement of commercial production by Iraqi Ministry of Oil in November in the year. As of the end of March 2019, production volume in the field is approximately 90,000 barrel per day at average.

After the first shipment of Japex Garraf’s equity oil in February 2014, total of 31 million barrels had been shipped by March 2019. There will be a shipment planned in each quarter.

Based on the Final Development Plan approved by the Government of Iraq in 2018, the field is undergoing further development in stages to achieve crude oil production of 230,000 barrel per day by end of 2020.
