Russia - Sakhalin
In Russia, through its investment in Sakhalin Oil & Gas Development Co., Ltd. (SODECO) which owns a 30% interest in the Sakhalin-1 project.On the island of Sakhalin in the far eastern province of Russia, JAPEX is being involved in the project to develop the three oil and gas fields of Chayvo, Odoptu and Arkutun-Dagi on the northeast shelf of Sakhalin island in the far eastern province. SODECO, with Exxon Nefte Limited (the operator) and the other partners, is currently proceeding with phase 1 operations to develop crude oil reserves in the Chayvo oil and gas field. Early production got under way in October 2005, followed by the start of sales of both oil and gas to the Russian market.
A shipping terminal completed in September 2006, and export of crude oil to Japan and other areas of East Asia began in October 2006. The Sakhalin-1 consortium has reached its targeted peak gross production rate of 40,000 kl/d (250,000 bopd) in February 2007.
